10122016 Friendsmily Steamboat House

It's been a long while since I went to a steamboat house, and was grateful to be invited by FoodInk to Friendsmily Steamboat House (FSH) to try out some of their menu!

First, a little background on the place. While it's recently opened (Nov '15), the main business is actually from Kingfisher Seafood Mart (KSM) who has been in the business of selling fresh and frozen seafood. You can actually buy the seafood from KSM and have FSH cook it for you. How cool is that?! However, there'll be surcharge if you require them to steam is a specific manner (you'll find out more when you're there!)

Not sure if there was a label error, but I kinda thought this was snails

Up close shot

This is one mean crab, I tried to get closer, and it reacted to me (like all the time!)
Thank goodness its pincers were tied up, else I'd be needing 911, lol

the prawns are super active!

Here's a short video of them.
Something's caught their attention?

Surcharge for steaming the seafood.
This is what I mentioned earlier.

Had a good tour around the KSM, and I must say the prices here are very good compared to the local supermarkets! I'm definitely interested in coming back to get some stuff, especially the scallops and seafood tofu! After the tour, went back to FSH to find that lots of food prepared!

CHECK IT OUT!! We've got all the good stuff yo!
Don't think I'll need to spell out the items on the table.
Take a look for yourself!

This here is the Wintermelon Pot.
Honestly while this looks absolutely stunning, I didn't think it's practical at all.
We had a tough time to cook the ingredients and to scoop them up.
But was it any good? It's darn AWESOME!
Love the taste!
If it wasn't any hassle, I'd reckon this is hands-down-you-must-try!

In case you're wondering what's on the other pot,
it's the 1/2 Plain Soup and 1/2 Sweet Corn Tomato Drumstick Pot
They're nice and tasty, but I'd still prefer the soup in the Wintermelon pot

Camera "eat" first.
Many of the FoodInkers were busy capturing the food

I figured I might as well so something too!

Seafood Pan Besar (Talapia)
This is one heck of a meal!
You get mussles, scallops, prawns, abalone slices, sotong, clams, and of course the talapia fish too!
You can check out the prices below and for more info.

They've even got some menu packages which includes Yong Tau Fu !
Sweet deals!

Capture of the menu listing for you! =)

Another shot of the Wintermelon Pot with lots of food in it!

Even caught a video for you!

If you're into fresh seafood, then there's a good recommendation for you! You can get some grocery shopping done, and optionally eat them immediately after purchase! Hahaha.

30072016 M136 Coffee House, Taman Maluri - Workshop!

After scrumptious food session, it's time to have some fun! M136 Coffee House and FoodInk had plan a workshop for us. What workshop? Tiramisu Workshop! We're going to learn how to make tiramisu cups dessert! Yayy!

I'll show you some pictures from the workshop, and thereafter explain the step by step to make the tiramisu cup (yes, I took notes, like a good boy =P )

We're all so excited to be part of the workshop, but our cameras were even more excited!

Mixing the cream!
The before (left) and after (right)
Note: instructions will be below, towards the end of the post

The mixture should be thick enough that it doesn't fall out from the bowl immediately when lifted upside down. SinNee at the back was so amazed! Hahaha

Gary wanted to see for himself that the mixture is good!

Lady fingers bread prepared

We're almost done!
Each of us were given the chance to make our own tiramisu cup!
Lee Yann was pretty nervous and excited about it!

Tadah! It's done!
Well, not quite, because it still has to rest at least another 3-4 hours in the fridge!

How it looks from side angle!

At the end, we're encourage to pour cocoa powder on top as finishing.
Optionally, you can also do them in a decorated manner!

Guess whose kpop fans made this?

It's not everyone here (some had to leave early) but it's quite a handful of people. I enjoyed the session not only because I had learned something, but also because I was surrounded by beauties! =D Well, it's also because I was complimented by them, for something rather big too!

This is the group picture of us FoodInkers initially!
(pictures taken from Facebook)

We also had a group picture with the M136 Coffee House staff/crew!
They're awesome people!
(pictures taken from Facebook)

Alright, so as promised below is the recipe provided by M136 Coffee House:

Ingredients:
a) 90g of icing sugar
b) 2 egg yolks
c) 150g of mascarpone
d) 500g of cold whipping cream (liquid form)
e) 1-2 shots of Henessey VSOP Cognac (or any other brandy of your liking)
f) few drops of vanilla extract
g) lady fingers bread
h) espresso shots

Instructions:
1. Weigh and pour 90g of icing sugar into bowl.
2. Put/pour in 2 egg yolks and 150g of mascarpone into bowl.
3. Using hand mixer, mix it well (probably a short 2 minutes is good enough).
4. Pour 500g cold whipping cream into mixture (shake well before pouring in).
5. Using hand mixer, at still position, slowly mix again (a good 3-4 minutes).
6. Once mixture has thicken further, mix in rotating position with variable speeds (slow-fast-slow-fast, for another 3-4 minutes). Stop when texture is thick smoothy (if it doesn't fall when bowl is flipped upside down, then it's pretty good).
7. Pour in a shot (or two) of Hennessy VSOP Cognac.
8. Put a few drops of vanilla extract.
9. Using hand mixer, mix a little more (for a minute or so), and put aside.
10. Cut each lady fingers bread into 4 pieces.
11. Take a cup, put a small scoop of mixture into the cup.
12. Dip the pieces of lady fingers bread into espresso shots, and put them into cup (each piece should be covered with another layer of mixture).
13. Sprinkle cocoa powder over the mixture to create a somewhat visible layer.
14. Continue until cup is full.
15. Let tiramisu cup rest in refrigerator for about 3-4 hours.
16. Finish the tiramisu cup with cocoa powder on top.
17. Voila it's done!

30072016 M136 Coffee House, Taman Maluri

Returning to action with fellow FoodInkers, and this time we've got something special besides the food!

Warmly invited by M136 Coffee House, to have a try at some of their existing and new menus. It's nice and cozy place to be at (personally, I don't mind spending my whole day there). I had some time to explore the place while waiting for the others to arrive.

As much as I want to show you how the whole place look like, my phone does not actually perform well in low-light. And I don't want to spoil it entirely for you! You should come check it out!

Note: Pay attention to the bottom two pictures in the image above ↑

It was terrible jam on the day itself, most probably due to the constructions in the surrounding area. It took me an hour or more to reach this place, where I could have easily arrived within 20 minutes at normal times. One thing to note is that the parking here is scarce! If it wasn't for Stella, I wouldn't have gotten myself such a good spot. Honestly, felt like a VIP then *thumbs up for Stella!*

We were treated to starters, mains and desserts! M136 Coffee House was so generous! *so touched*

Creamy Smokey Salmon Pasta (top right)
RM16.90

Spaghetti Pastora (bottom right)
RM19.90

I enjoyed the salmon pasta. While the creamy sauce wasn't thick as I hoped it would be, the salmon flavor was good enough to forget about it. I would say it looks as good as it taste =)

As for the pastora, although I didn't taste the identity of the pasta, it surely is a very filling one! I would surely like to exchange the thickness of the sauce here with the salmon pasta! That being said, I believe they are still improving and will only get better! So do give this a try!

M136 Big Breakfast
RM16.90

Honestly, this looks way better than the picture in the menu! Hahaha, and it taste great! The portioning is just nice for 1 hungry person in the morning, or for a couple who'd like share brunch while trying out another item! Brilliant!

Butter Chicken
RM16.90

Mmm, I love the combination of the butter chicken and the wedges! The added spice into the sauce isn't spicy, but yet it's so delicious that I wish there was more that I could dip the wedges into the sauce! The addition of the salad ensures you have at least some vegetables to go along with this meal!

Ice Cola Coffee
RM7.90 (price might have changed)

Recommended by Stella for a refreshing taste of Coffee-flavored Rootbeer! Weird? Not at all, I actually find it very nice! It's coffee + coke! The combination is a whole new world! Check out the video below!

Mozarella Pork Chop
RM23.90

Seriously, it's one grand meal! Imagine a thick pork chop, now stuff it with mozarella, and voila! It's simple, it's amazing! Now, why am I not finding this a common menu in other restaurants??!! This is definitely a calling for subsequent visits!

Gourmet Salmon
RM23.90

Just when I thought things couldn't get any better! A big piece/chunk of salmon just landed on the table (well, chair if you're referring to the pictures)! Looks simple, but taste brilliant! Especially for the price! It's very tough to not order this again next time, after tasting this!

Smoothies (mix of dragon fruit and banana)
RM12.90

Recommended by the house. Didn't know these two go so well, creating a rich creamy texture of dragon fruit with slight taste of banana. Thankfully the taste of banana was just nice, without overwhelming the dragon fruit.

Durian Cheese Cake
RM12

Durian Brulee
RM12

Freshly made with supply of musang king from local durian plantation, these two desserts are to die for (especially if you're a durian lover). Hands down to the king of all cheese cakes and brulee! =D The sweet scent of the musang king can be smelled all over the room, as soon as its refrigerator doors are slide open! One bite into either one of them, makes you go "Ooo, ahhhh, wahhh~~~" So sinful yet so good! It's been nearly a week, and I still can't get over their taste!

Berry-Berry with Ice Cream
RM12.90

Caution: Do not order this after Durian Cheese Cake / Brulee.

Thankfully, I had calmed my excited taste buds to carefully enjoy this dessert! Love the waffles, and I wished I had eaten them sooner, before they were cold. It looks like a puzzle piece, and I love taking a berry, a slice of strawberry, and a small portion waffle with some ice cream on it, into a mouthful bite! Yums!

This place is the place to go to for a hearty meal, amazingly appetizing and delectable dishes for a reasonable price without breaking your wallet! The staff/crew are very accommodating and friendly. The place is very cozy - it's especially nice to dine at when the outdoor's weather too much for you. Only downside that I can find about this place is the location and parking availability - for now, it's in the middle of a medium-heavy traffic area (due to construction) and it's not easy to find an parking spot (unless you don't mind walking quite a distance). This is definitely a must-try place if you haven't already tried it!

30052015-31052015 Min's Birthday at Lavish Spa

The dinner celebration for Min was only 1 part to it. I had another plan which I had been planning over 2 weeks, which had me doing a lot of research before finally deciding on it. Of course I had help as well =) I'm so grateful for awesome and supportive friends. As this was the first birthday celebration for her, I had to make it something very special. Something meaningful and also relaxing for her. And so the idea of bringing her to a spa came to mind. I was also in luck because in the month of May, there was a promotion for May babies *lucky me!* =D

Before we do that, we need to get ourselves a brunch. My initial idea having a delightful breakfast had to be postponed to brunch because the night before extended a little longer than I had expected. But it was alright, because everything was going to be fine. I have many backup plans, should either one of them fail. Why? Because I don't intend to fail at this 1st-time celebration with Min =P

Initially, I thought she was being cute.
Turns out she's actually trying to tell me that the filtered water is chargeable, lol!
I ordered two cups of filtered water, RM1 each

Flat White
RM9

I gotta say, J&D really did it right.
I'm no fan of flat white, but I quite like this one!

Spaghetti Carbonara
RM21
Very nice and creamy, just what my "doctor prescribed"! =D

Pork Lasagne
RM25
My first time trying out a lasagne of pork.
Got me wanting more!

Location:
Oasis Business Center BU11,
Lebuh Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya.
Open 1130am-930pm,
closed Mondays.

So after brunch, it was time to head down and continue my plan. She still hasn't figured out what I arranged for her. She almost guessed it, That's because I asked her to bring spare clothes for an overnight stay and a pair of swimwear. When she told me she knew where we were going, I thought for sure she had gotten it right. But when I finally told her that we're heading to Lavish Spa, she did not see that coming either =P

The panoramic view of the city from Lavish Spa's open pool.
If you want to know how the reception and other facilities look like, head on their website.
I'm just gonna be posting about my experience and my time with Min =)

I could clearly see the moon at 5pm!

The panoramic view of the pool

The panoramic view of the Lavish Cafe.
It's actually not big, but it's just nice =)

At the entertainment room!
There's dedicated PC to each chair.
It's not actually that dark, but I dimmed the lights,
so that it feels much more relaxing at on the chair
This is also where we'll be sleeping when night falls.

Originally a normal selfie, but I figured I'll take my chances with this.
Turns out it's a good shot!
❤

We went to the spa first.
No, it's not a shared one (how I wish it was!)
The ladies will go to the ladies spa, and the men will go to the men spa.
After that, we changed into our swim wear and went for short swim.

After our swim, we had dinner.
I then realize it was EAT ALL YOU CAN EAT (ala carte order only).
There was no limit to how much you order, except that if you waste the food, you'll be penalized.

I actually had one round of snacks order before she joined me for dinner =P

As guest of lavish spa, we have to change into their provided clothes
(1 size only for men unfortunately)
Bathing robes are optional, but they're very comfortable to be in.
If you're staying overnight like we are, you'll definitely need it.

Imagine yourself eating and drinking from 8AM to 3AM
OMGosh!

Lamb Chop

Fried Chicken Wings

Seafood Tom Yam Soup Noodles

Iced Mocha

Butter Fish Rice

Following morning, we woke up and headed to the Lavish Cafe for breakfast

Iced Chocolate Milk & Latte

Simple Breakfast - of Eggs, Bacon, Sausage and Red Beans

Sausage Roll

No one's around so we decide to selfie!

Another attempt at it

After breakfast, we went for some light exercise at the gym

She wanted to the try to the "Shake, Shake" machine.
I LOL-ed so hard, when I saw her shaking xD

Then, we went on the threadmill together.

"On the path to happiness"
hahaha super cheesy caption!
Min ever-so-happy on the threadmill =P

After gym, we went for a short swim again!
One must fully take advantage of the facilities given =P

Then, we went to the spa.
Here's the Sauna room.
I couldn't last longer than 3 minutes in this room,
'cause I'm one person who can't stand heat.

This is the Steam room.
I didn't bother to try 'cause I know t's no difference in terms of heat.

This was where I enjoyed myself most in the spa.
Warm bubbling jacuzzi.
Feeling rejuvenated after I spend several sessions here.

The men's washroom were provided with many men's essential.
No need to worry about toothbrush, shaver or even hairspray.

I went and look around, and there was a sitting near the cafe
that had Chinese chess provided

There was also the normal English chess!
How cool!

While waiting for Min to finish her spa session, I had my Earl Grey tea with the pool view.
Very relaxing indeed.

Tom Yam Gong with Rice, Marmite Chicken Rice & Chicken Wings!
We had lunch before leaving for home.

Decided to order an extra plate of Butter Chicken as well

There was a cinema hall on the same floor.
The movie listing changes everyday I think, because the day before, the listing was a little different.

I just couldn't resist myself to create this GIF of us =P

We had a great time there. And I was just super glad that this was a good experience for her. The place was not quite as big as I was hoping for. But it was alright for us. Just a note, if there's many patron that evening, you'll need to find for places to bump in (whether at entertainment room or cinema hall). The downside of the place is that there's a club downstairs with super heavy bass. Min's a light sleeper while I tend to wake up when I (frequently) sense unknown movement. So, we couldn't really fall asleep until about 3AM, because that's when the music went off and people stop moving around us. So happened that the very same night we were staying over, many patrons were there too -they were looking for chairs to comfortably sleep on.

Last but not least I did the cheesiest thing I could think of

- drawn on my iPhone -

Happy Birthday Jasmine aka Supermin!
