Negotiation, A Success Or Failed?

I'm not sure whether the negotiation was done right, and whether or not the result is correct or otherwise. I'll "show" ya in the stories below and you be the judge of it.

Disclaimer: Below is not the exact context of the conversion, but just an extract and simplification of the actual scenario. This author is not responsible for any conclusion which the audience interpret from the context.

Scenario #1: "Negotiation" for extension of task duration

A: I need these (documents) to be signed off within 2 weeks.
Me: 2 weeks?! But this looks like a 4 weeks work! Cannot extend the timeline?
A: I know it's tight, but you need to plan it out and then send out portion by portion for reviewing and to be signed off
Me: Huh? So, rush!
A: OK, like this, you do this set first within the 2 weeks, and then you do and send the other set, in the following week OK?
Me: Err, OK?
A: OK!

So, did I manage to get a time extension? Or did I just managed to get "extra" work?
Note: I thought I only needed to do the first set, and the second set at a much later time.

Scenario #2: "Negotiation" for delegation of work

B: Eh, saw from your email that you needed these (pictures/images) from my guy?
Me: Yup, as mentioned in the email, I require them to send some samples over to my clients.
B: It looks like a lot of work needed for my guy. FYI, my guy currently is tied up with several projects to come out with the designs too. Do you really need them ah?
Me: *whut?* Ya, I need them. Actually, my team needs them because we don't have the expertise to come out with it. I understand your guy is busy, that's why I outlined the direction and hopefully it can be done by next week.
B: Cannot la, to do this from that, requires a lot of time, and we simply don't have that time.
Me: Err, OK. How about your guy work on 2-3 images instead of the whole set? The most important part is this Image1, Image2 and Image3. I'll try and work something out, but I'll need to have the raw files to work out the rest from there.
B: So, don't need the whole set, but just 2-3 right? And the rest you do your magic, ya?
Me: I guess and hope so. But I need them in order to do something.
B: We'll try and see first if can deliver that by next week to you.

So, did I manage to get someone to help me to do the work? Or did I just managed to get "extra" work onto my own hands?
Note: I thought I only had to inform the person to help me, as instructed.

I'm confused. Did I do well in the negotiation?

Gotta Cool Down at Work

Things are really getting heated up at my workplace, like literally. The air-conditioning isn't as good as it used to it, and not to forget, it gets turned off an hour before we get off work. It was so humid and stuffy within the building that I wanted to strip naked (if only we could! =P) to continue working.

Drastic times call for drastic measures!

Giant Toner at Work

Somehow, I tend to do more expected of my job scope, and today's scope would be to collect the a toner for an old photocopy machine and replace it, myself! Apparently, while it may seem like it was only me who had interest in the old photocopy machine, others seem to be waiting for someone else to get his/her hands dirty for their own benefits.

Just a note, I went to research how to make use of the machine, which includes downloading the driver and writing a user manual guide (yes I wrote it!). Next thing, I knew, everyone was using the machine and when it's almost out of ink, no one bothers to do a darn thing about it.

I took the initiative to request for the toner, and to my surprise, I received the response and the replacement toner was ready for pick up by afternoon. Guess who went to get it? Hint: yours truly!

Check out the size of this box!

This is it! the size of the toner is almost that of a bomb!

29032015 Working Early Morning on Sunday

After the dinner (and supper) yesterday, I had to rush off for a deployment shift which begins at 1AM. Well, I'm not there to do a deployment; I'm just there to oversee the progress and assist the team if there's any issue at all.

Bought this from Empayar Seremban Siew Bao
Jalan Besar TBK 4,
Taman Bukit Kepayang,
70200 Seremban, Negeri Sembilan

6 Freshly Baked Siew Bao

We were there the whole morning from 1AM all the way to 10AM. There were some hiccups, but eventually they were all were resolved. The deployment can be said went well, thankfully!

20032015 Farewell Lunch for Colleague

Yet another colleague is to leave us. This would be the third person so far, since I first embarked with the team. Is it too stressful for them? Well, one thing's for sure, we all are very grateful for each and everyone's contribution to the team and project. Everyone's equally important, I must say. Lesser by 1, makes it a little difficult for everyone else because we have then take up extra responsibilities to cope up as well.

the A-team, LOL
Back-row from left: Min, Li Meng, Lee Sing, Ke Xin, Lee Fun, Elaine, Khuan Yew
Front-row from left: Wee Kien, Gan Seng, William, Durai, Me, Wern Jiang, Jun Xian

This marks the last day of Li Meng's contribution to our team. She will definitely be missed. Wee Kien's also returning to his other team. He was a borrowed team member from another project to aide us with some complex area. We're just glad they were part of the team =)

All the best in your future endeavours, Li Meng!
Always be as cheerful as you are =D

08032015 Working on Sunday

It's tough to say it's a beautiful Sunday when one has to wake up at ungodly hours to do something that one should not be doing on such a wonderful rest-day. Well, apart from that, it's still a beautiful Sunday nevertheless =)

Taken with HDR mode.
While it might not be the best picture, it's actually quite good with the grey skies.

my OOTD (outfit of the day) for Sunday workday

A chocolate treat that my sister shared with me.
It's from Japan!
The taste is unique, but I didn't quite fancy it.

We pass by this restaurant almost every time we want to go QCM.
And it never cease to amaze us with the queue!

On Sunday afternoon, it's packed with people as if it was a Monday-Friday afternoon!
What's in the food?! Kaskas?? LoL

We decided not to try this food, as the queue was long, and the weather was very hot to eat outdoors. So we proceeded with our plans to eat at QCM. I just love that mall, it's nice and cold and it smells refreshing! =D We had our lunch at T-Signature, to try it out something different. Went in there to find out what I want to order, isn't available *What nonsense is that for a restaurant that had just opened a while ago, while very little customers?!* End up I had to compromise and go for another menu instead.

Left office at 7PM, it was raining very heavily but the sun was still up, behind me =)

My family had a last minute dinner arrangement with their friends.
So it's just me at home, decided to try out the instant noodle which I bought from Indonesia Trip.

I added a little too much water, but thankfully it still taste good =D

27022015 Back To Work

It's less than 24 hours and I'm already back to office, thankfully it's a Friday #TGIF. Things hadn't changed much, but work has piled up much for me. The first task I had this morning was to attend a progress-update meeting in which I have no idea what's going on, 'cause I was away for the past 4 days of the week. I still miss my Indonesia trip =( Why did time passed so fast! Only felt like yesterday that I was packing up for my trip.

Hello from my office!
My most important thing to do at work, was not the meetings, documents nor the emails. It was lunch! "What to eat for lunch?" and "Where to go for lunch?" These are the toughest work to do!

But alas, my team had agreed to go to Sopoong, in QCM for lunch! It's the only Korean food restaurant nearest to us which has a decent taste and good portioning for its price.

The Funny Things I Read

A colleague explaining to me something technical, in a way that I'll most definitely understand:
hmm, the internal mechanism i am not sure how
but, it is not advised to use same variable name for parent and child class...
i dont know whoo add it and why the purpose...
by right, can reuse back the base class 1
this behaviour jz like u marry with your cousin,
it is legal, but it is not advisable

An email I received detailing the requirements for a blood donor, and one of the clauses state:
Not involve in any of the following activities:-
a) Homosexual relationship,
b) Bisexual relationship,
c) Multiple sexual partners,
d) Having sexual contact with those mentioned above and
e) Drug abuse.

And I'm Back to Work!

It didn't take me long to keep me down! =P I'm back to work, with lots of things to follow up on. Before I went to work, I needed breakfast. However, for some reasons I lack the skills to make good and consistent breakfast.

Look what happened to my supposedly half boiled egg!

Fortunately for me, I 'pre-ordered' breakfast as well (Actually, I kinda 'stole' it from someone, try guessing who that someone is)! I prepared a spoon to bring to office.

Radish soup with meat and potato!
Thank god for this! Otherwise, I'd be going through the drawers of junk food again! Ahhh, isn't it nice to have a friend and colleague that cooks? =P So, as you can tell, I'm good at what I do - work and eat =D

Oh guess what I found awaiting my return, at the office?

Ha! My very first uniquely-named credit card!

Long Day at Work

But it's not going to be a long post, it's just that it's one of those days whereby you gotta delivery the job regardless of what situation your in, and for me, it's today... or yesterday? I'm not even sure what day it is already.

It's kinda interesting 'cause I managed to fit a number of activities into 24 hours time frame.
  1. Work
  2. Badminton
  3. A meet up with a friend
  4. Slides preparation for a presentation
  5. Advising / consulting on different project
  6. Attending to a friend in need
As you can see work itself takes up half the time and activities within the 24 hours. Surprisingly, as tired as it may sound, it was rather fun and fulfilling =)

Late night snacks to keep the 'engine' going on

Tofu Cheesecake - to die for~~
at The Owls Cafe in Bukit Jalil..

Too bad they closed their kitchen by the time I go there.

Salmon Pasta - well, it's pretty salty though if you ask me.
at the Moonlight Cake House in Sri Petaling

Somehow the taste of their food is rather inconsistent.
