20150601 Dinner at Wakon Japanese Restaurant, Damansara Uptown

Felt like having Japanese food tonight, so Min and I headed to DU to try out the Wakon Restaurant. Passed by this restaurant a few times, and tonight we finally got a chance to try it out.

Ordered ourselves some udon and some skewer items just for a try.

Home made udon tomato soup
RM8.50

Apparently this is the better one of the two we ordered.
Had more taste than the other.

Home made udon tonkatsu soup
RM8.50

This is very much plain clear soup.
If you want more taste, I'd suggest the other that we ordered.

Pork Belly Skewer
RM6.90

This is actually very good.
But for me it's quite pricey to keep ordering this,
unless I'm without a budge.

Salmon Belly Skewer
RM9.90

Mmm, nothing beats salmon belly.
It's a while now and I can still recall the taste!

Don't know if it's only me feeling the pinch in my wallet when eating Japanese food like this? These are more affordable ones as compared to the other items in the menu. When I saw another couple ordering a whole lot, I wondered how much their bill could be. From their looks and conversation (they were loud enough), I could tell that they were only students. Don't they feel the pinch too? Hmmm..

Well, this is a rather good place to dine at, if you don't have a budget to look at, as I mentioned earlier. Honestly, it wouldn't be filling for just a bowl of udon and a skewer. But hey, it's for the taste and experience. Gotta try it to know it =)

07052015 - Dinner at A Pie Thing, Damansara Uptown

It's Badminton Thursday! Started making it a habit to have a full body workout at least once a week, and badminton seem to be the sport that I can get at least 3 other people to join me on a weekly basis.

So, on a Thursday like this, and given that we gotta have something to eat before our badminton session, the question is "Where and what can we eat?" We're all tired of mamak and fast food, so what are our other options?

Tonight, I found an alternative! Heard of A Pie Thing? Well, you should, as it's quite famous in Damansara Uptown. What do they serve? Well, as their name suggest, PIE!

Cheesy Chicken Pie w/ Mash. RM15.90.
Chunky Steak Pie. RM13.90.

They're still as amazing as ever! The last time I had this was sometime last year and I can't recall when (this was before I started this blog). Don't think for a moment that they look small and might not even fill your stomachs, because they're quite the opposite!

The pies are really stuff with its suggested name. The pie we ordered had just the right amount of cheesy chicken and chunky steak! Luckily I only add the additional Mash topping on one of the pies, otherwise, I'd be feeling too full to do anything else. In fact, I shared the pies with Min, who isn't quite the big eater as I am. So you can imagine how filling they are.

The environment has been quite the same since I last visit, it's quite comfortable even though the tables are quite small (but then again, it's not a very big place, so it's quite good actually). You gotta be lucky because this place is usually packed and the pies runs out pretty quickly. For its price, it's definitely worth it =) I absolutely love the Mash topping, too bad they're not on the side dish menu!

29042015 Jess Belated Birthday Celebration

We've back at Bingsu Cafe, but today's visit was to celebrate Jess' Belated Birthday. She's one popular friend and colleague, I think this makes it the 4th or 5th celebration already? I even lost count of it. Oh by the way, remembered the last visit, I mentioned getting a wefie at the cafe will entitle us for a 20% discount? Well, tonight that came in handy! Hahaha.

Happy belated birthday to Jess

19042015 Dessert at Bingsu Cafe, Damansara Uptown

Heard there was a premium bingsu cafe in Damansara Uptown, called Bingsu Cafe. So decided to head there and check it out. Had some company tonight, so we're able to order more than 1 bingsu to try out!

Belgian Chocolate Bingsu
RM16.90 nett
Absolutely a must for chocolate lovers! Indulge yourself in this rich and sweet savory!

Injeolmi Red Bean Bingsu
RM13.90
Though this looks plain, the taste is definitely not!
It's amazing and it'll keep you going on =)

Kate, Min, Mimi and Me
Taking a wefie there, will earn you a 20% discount on your next visit!

Taste-wise: They've definitely outdone themselves in the making of bingsu. Their bingsu are absolutely smooth and the base shaved-ice is not-too-sweet either. Besides, OW:L Espresso, I'll definitely anyone to try this out!

Environment-wise: Looks pretty good on the inside (couldn't take a shot of the interior, due to my camera's focus being out *haven't fixed it yet*). If there's not many people, it's quite chilly. It's just nice when there's a crowd. They have board and card games there for entertainment. It's a self-service area - Order, wait for the order, and pick it up when it's ready. There's also a green-tea-dispenser available to dine-in customers. Another plus point is that they open till 12 midnight! Awesomeness, to those who fancy a late night dessert =P

Price-wise: It's pretty premium, ranging from RM12.90 to RM18.90 for bingsu. Shocked? Ya, so was I. But you can't get it anywhere else, as good as this. If you do, please share it with me as well.

01032015 Movie Time & Dinner!

I've been wanting to watch Kingsman, due to the good review and recommendation. So I buzzed up my friends, however not many actually replied with a "Yes". Luckily, there were two girls who accompanied me to watch the show =)

Luckily it's not so packed at Tropicana =)

Unfortunately, the show was not quite up to my expectations. Probably, I set quite a high expectation for it. It was quite funny, that I gotta give it credits. However, it's not quite as exciting or action-packed as I thought it would be through the trailers that I've watched. And I still didn't get UK jokes, hahaha.

After movies, we hung out at Epicuro.
They didn't have anything to eat after lunch, and before 6pm.
The girls had coffee and we chat a while, before we left the place.

Cantonese Yee Mee!
At damansara uptown, the shop is known for Hokkien Mee.
So naturally we had to find dinner.
One of the girls had to leave, so it's down to one girl for me =P
It's lucky to company for dinner, eh? =D

And of course, not to forget Fried Chicken Wings! =D
Movie & Dinner, definitely fulfilling enough =)
It's a good start for the month!

08022015 Adventures! Includes Desserts at Jipangi, Sunway and The Bulb Coffee, Damansara Jaya & Dinner at Hayaki, Damansara Uptown

It's another beautiful Sunday! It's so rare of me to have nothing on my list of things to do. So, I sorta pulled my friend's to-do list instead.

I'm loving this new shades that I bought a couple of months back,
finally starting to use it!

Went to a few places today:

1. Mid Valley (again, I know) to change some currencies for my friends - you know what, Min told me of Money Master, of which I find pretty reliable as a reference to the currency exchange. Since I was helping her and a few friends of mine to exchange currencies, I was sorta monitoring the exchange rate pretty frequently - something I'd never do before. Still I'm fascinated by the fact that many people are so hyped up about the currency exchange that there's a long queue already early in the morning - many people are travelling around it seems. It's not the first time I see such a queue.

2. Sunway Pyramid (just before lunch hours) to pick up some items for my friends - mainly the Dried Meat. There's always the parking issue in Sunway area, I guess it's due the increasing density of people staying in the areas, especially students. After I picked up my friends' items, I made a quick pit stop at Jipangi.

It's still quite early, so there's no queue
Good for me, yes!

I ordered the Chocolate Banana mix

the close up shot
I honestly prefer the Banana flavor as compared to the Chocolate.
However, I find the ratio to be imbalance.
Instead of 50:50 Choco-Banana, I got 80:20
(but it's filled up entirely so thumbs up for that!)
Perhaps I should specify the ratio next time

Jipangi Ice Cream doesn't come cheap (it's about the price of Milkcow's yogurt). RM7 for single flavor and RM9 for mixed (probably this explains why I received a 80:20 portion? I should say Banana-Choco perhaps?). Well, that being said, most ice cream parlors are pricing their menus at about this rate nowadays, as they claim it's premium ice cream / flavors. In my opinion, it's good for first-time experience though, however, if you're an Ice Cream lover, you'd better off be spending your money on others.

Location:
LG2.75A (near Aeon), Sunway Pyramid

3. Sungai Kayu Ara area, to check up on the venue for our upcoming Badminton session starting early March. I've never been to this place before, and the reason why I chose this was because of its rates. I booked this via iBookCourt.com, so feel free to check it out yourself =)

Lot 997 Jln Dahlia,
Kg Sg Kayu Ara, PJU 6a,
47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

4. Damansara Jaya (for high tea) just to chill out with my buddies. KC wanted to return my spare tyre which I had loan him a few days back because his wheels were stolen - a strong reminder, to be very careful where you park in PJ area, as there are many cases of tyre thefts in the vicinity. So, we hanged out at the Bulb Coffee cafe.

If you double-parked 'cause you had to be at this cafe,
there's something you can put in your car!
Insurance Agents get 10% discount! How cool is that?

They do have workshops from time to time!

Cozy interior, ain't it?

I simply love the Kek Belang Harimau (also known as Kuih Batik)! For RM4 per serving, there's nothing quite like it! I don't like food that are too sweet so this is just perfect! Instead of using Milo as most modern recipes do, they use espresso so it adds up to the taste, yums!

Perhaps I came at the time that was pretty quiet, but because of that it was also perfect for my friends and I to have our chat. We need not be loud and it wasn't stuffy (air conditioning was just right~). It was comfortable and there were enough lighting as well.

5. Damansara Uptown (DU) for dinner. High tea was just a slice of cake and a glass of juice, so naturally it wasn't enough to last until the next day. As KC and his gf were heading to Tropicana to do some shopping, I asked Min if she'd like to grab dinner before heading home. I wanted to try out Hayaki as it was always popping up in my list of places to try in DU. Even read the review at my friend's blog, Rebeccasaw.com before.

Taste wise - the food's alright, I wouldn't say it's something I'd drive long distance to get a bite. It meets the requirement, but at bare minimum. Probably only for the menu I ordered, as they're pretty famous for Kelantanese cuisine. I couldn't take spicy so I didn't order them Kelantanese food. Min tried out the Nasi Lemak and even though she can take spicy food, it was way too much for her. She was sniffing already halfway through her meal.

Service wise - man, the waitress there was not glad to be serving people, that much I could say. She had the longest face while serving us and I felt rather unpleasant whenever I had to call for assistance.

Environment wise - good thing is that it runs 24 hours, so if you're ever hungry in the middle of the night / morning, and you're tired of Mamak or fast food chains, this is the place to go. I haven't tried out the other menus, but if I'm nearby at odd hours of the day, I'd be willing to give this place a try.

Price wise - it's reasonable enough, probably slightly cheaper than that of Old Town's and Pappa Rich, if you're familiar with their pricing. Not bad at all for a 24 hours restaurant.

6. Mutiara Damansara, to get supper, the final bit for the day! I'm not usually a fan of supper, but off late, due to my working hours, I tend to have this extra appetite that I must fulfill (otherwise, I'll have this terrible feeling). I know it's not healthy and I'm working on it, so meanwhile I must do what I must to ease the 'savage beast'. LOL =D Also, I wanted to get curry puffs for my family. So, where did I go to get some of the best curry puffs around? IKEA!

Now, you must be wondering why on earth it is a picture of chicken wings instead of curry puffs. Honestly, I'm rather embarrassed as I totally forgotten to take the picture of it. And I nearly forgotten to take a picture of the wings too (you can see by the number of bones showing when the picture was taken). But, fret not, as Google is a few click away from showing you how they look like (I'm assuming whoever you are, you'd be savvy enough to find out how the curry puffs look like in Google Images. Click here if you're not.)

And, so that ends my adventure for the day! Gotta go, tomorrow's work day again!

26012015 Late Dinner at Restaurant Tiong Hokkien Mee

One thing about getting off work late is that it's pretty hard to find decent food around my office area. Tonight is no exception. Went slightly out of the way, Damansara Uptown (DU). Clueless of what to eat, I turned to Min, and she had the same expression as I did - Clueless. Went around DU, I decided to just got for plain noodles. Found a parking, and started walking. I heard in DU there's famous Hokkien Mee, but I wasn't sure which shop. Our stomachs were grumbling, so we went to the first restaurant we came across, Tiong's Hokkien Mee.

We ordered 2 people's portion, and it was RM15. Honestly, it's kinda pricier than I thought for Hokkien Mee. It was rather normal, nothing quite exceptional. You can probably get this off any hawker stall, for lesser than what I paid.

I noticed everyone seated around us were ordering something similar, Fried Chicken Wings to go along with their main dish. So, I looked at Min, asked if she's interested in trying. She gave a big nod, haha. It's RM2.80 per wing, with minimum order of a pair. Each of us a wing, so that makes it RM5.60 for a pair of fried chicken wings. Slightly pricier than the BBQ Chicken Wings we had a few days back.
