30072016 M136 Coffee House, Taman Maluri - Workshop!

After scrumptious food session, it's time to have some fun! M136 Coffee House and FoodInk had plan a workshop for us. What workshop? Tiramisu Workshop! We're going to learn how to make tiramisu cups dessert! Yayy!

I'll show you some pictures from the workshop, and thereafter explain the step by step to make the tiramisu cup (yes, I took notes, like a good boy =P )

We're all so excited to be part of the workshop, but our cameras were even more excited!

Mixing the cream!
The before (left) and after (right)
Note: instructions will be below, towards the end of the post

The mixture should be thick enough that it doesn't fall out from the bowl immediately when lifted upside down. SinNee at the back was so amazed! Hahaha

Gary wanted to see for himself that the mixture is good!

Lady fingers bread prepared

We're almost done!
Each of us were given the chance to make our own tiramisu cup!
Lee Yann was pretty nervous and excited about it!

Tadah! It's done!
Well, not quite, because it still has to rest at least another 3-4 hours in the fridge!

How it looks from side angle!

At the end, we're encourage to pour cocoa powder on top as finishing.
Optionally, you can also do them in a decorated manner!

Guess whose kpop fans made this?

It's not everyone here (some had to leave early) but it's quite a handful of people. I enjoyed the session not only because I had learned something, but also because I was surrounded by beauties! =D Well, it's also because I was complimented by them, for something rather big too!

This is the group picture of us FoodInkers initially!
(pictures taken from Facebook)

We also had a group picture with the M136 Coffee House staff/crew!
They're awesome people!
(pictures taken from Facebook)

Alright, so as promised below is the recipe provided by M136 Coffee House:

Ingredients:
a) 90g of icing sugar
b) 2 egg yolks
c) 150g of mascarpone
d) 500g of cold whipping cream (liquid form)
e) 1-2 shots of Henessey VSOP Cognac (or any other brandy of your liking)
f) few drops of vanilla extract
g) lady fingers bread
h) espresso shots

Instructions:
1. Weigh and pour 90g of icing sugar into bowl.
2. Put/pour in 2 egg yolks and 150g of mascarpone into bowl.
3. Using hand mixer, mix it well (probably a short 2 minutes is good enough).
4. Pour 500g cold whipping cream into mixture (shake well before pouring in).
5. Using hand mixer, at still position, slowly mix again (a good 3-4 minutes).
6. Once mixture has thicken further, mix in rotating position with variable speeds (slow-fast-slow-fast, for another 3-4 minutes). Stop when texture is thick smoothy (if it doesn't fall when bowl is flipped upside down, then it's pretty good).
7. Pour in a shot (or two) of Hennessy VSOP Cognac.
8. Put a few drops of vanilla extract.
9. Using hand mixer, mix a little more (for a minute or so), and put aside.
10. Cut each lady fingers bread into 4 pieces.
11. Take a cup, put a small scoop of mixture into the cup.
12. Dip the pieces of lady fingers bread into espresso shots, and put them into cup (each piece should be covered with another layer of mixture).
13. Sprinkle cocoa powder over the mixture to create a somewhat visible layer.
14. Continue until cup is full.
15. Let tiramisu cup rest in refrigerator for about 3-4 hours.
16. Finish the tiramisu cup with cocoa powder on top.
17. Voila it's done!

30072016 M136 Coffee House, Taman Maluri

Returning to action with fellow FoodInkers, and this time we've got something special besides the food!

Warmly invited by M136 Coffee House, to have a try at some of their existing and new menus. It's nice and cozy place to be at (personally, I don't mind spending my whole day there). I had some time to explore the place while waiting for the others to arrive.

As much as I want to show you how the whole place look like, my phone does not actually perform well in low-light. And I don't want to spoil it entirely for you! You should come check it out!

Note: Pay attention to the bottom two pictures in the image above

It was terrible jam on the day itself, most probably due to the constructions in the surrounding area. It took me an hour or more to reach this place, where I could have easily arrived within 20 minutes at normal times. One thing to note is that the parking here is scarce! If it wasn't for Stella, I wouldn't have gotten myself such a good spot. Honestly, felt like a VIP then *thumbs up for Stella!*

We were treated to starters, mains and desserts! M136 Coffee House was so generous! *so touched*

Creamy Smokey Salmon Pasta (top right)
RM16.90

Spaghetti Pastora (bottom right)
RM19.90

I enjoyed the salmon pasta. While the creamy sauce wasn't thick as I hoped it would be, the salmon flavor was good enough to forget about it. I would say it looks as good as it taste =)

As for the pastora, although I didn't taste the identity of the pasta, it surely is a very filling one! I would surely like to exchange the thickness of the sauce here with the salmon pasta! That being said, I believe they are still improving and will only get better! So do give this a try!

M136 Big Breakfast
RM16.90

Honestly, this looks way better than the picture in the menu! Hahaha, and it taste great! The portioning is just nice for 1 hungry person in the morning, or for a couple who'd like share brunch while trying out another item! Brilliant!

Butter Chicken
RM16.90

Mmm, I love the combination of the butter chicken and the wedges! The added spice into the sauce isn't spicy, but yet it's so delicious that I wish there was more that I could dip the wedges into the sauce! The addition of the salad ensures you have at least some vegetables to go along with this meal!

Ice Cola Coffee
RM7.90 (price might have changed)

Recommended by Stella for a refreshing taste of Coffee-flavored Rootbeer! Weird? Not at all, I actually find it very nice! It's coffee + coke! The combination is a whole new world! Check out the video below!

Mozarella Pork Chop
RM23.90

Seriously, it's one grand meal! Imagine a thick pork chop, now stuff it with mozarella, and voila! It's simple, it's amazing! Now, why am I not finding this a common menu in other restaurants??!! This is definitely a calling for subsequent visits!

Gourmet Salmon
RM23.90

Just when I thought things couldn't get any better! A big piece/chunk of salmon just landed on the table (well, chair if you're referring to the pictures)! Looks simple, but taste brilliant! Especially for the price! It's very tough to not order this again next time, after tasting this!

Smoothies (mix of dragon fruit and banana)
RM12.90

Recommended by the house. Didn't know these two go so well, creating a rich creamy texture of dragon fruit with slight taste of banana. Thankfully the taste of banana was just nice, without overwhelming the dragon fruit.

Durian Cheese Cake
RM12

Durian Brulee
RM12

Freshly made with supply of musang king from local durian plantation, these two desserts are to die for (especially if you're a durian lover). Hands down to the king of all cheese cakes and brulee! =D The sweet scent of the musang king can be smelled all over the room, as soon as its refrigerator doors are slide open! One bite into either one of them, makes you go "Ooo, ahhhh, wahhh~~~" So sinful yet so good! It's been nearly a week, and I still can't get over their taste!

Berry-Berry with Ice Cream
RM12.90

Caution: Do not order this after Durian Cheese Cake / Brulee.

Thankfully, I had calmed my excited taste buds to carefully enjoy this dessert! Love the waffles, and I wished I had eaten them sooner, before they were cold. It looks like a puzzle piece, and I love taking a berry, a slice of strawberry, and a small portion waffle with some ice cream on it, into a mouthful bite! Yums!

This place is the place to go to for a hearty meal, amazingly appetizing and delectable dishes for a reasonable price without breaking your wallet! The staff/crew are very accommodating and friendly. The place is very cozy - it's especially nice to dine at when the outdoor's weather too much for you. Only downside that I can find about this place is the location and parking availability - for now, it's in the middle of a medium-heavy traffic area (due to construction) and it's not easy to find an parking spot (unless you don't mind walking quite a distance). This is definitely a must-try place if you haven't already tried it!

Dinner at Uncle Don's, SS2

Usually, when I go to SS2, it's either for Japanese, Korean or Thai food. Rarely would I think about having western food in this area - it's either too pricey, or not convenient.

However, a friend of mine mentioned about Uncle Don's having affordable western food. I was skeptical. I thought either it's a dessert parlor or it must be shop a economy mixed rice. When my friend brought us there, it turns out that Uncle Don's is neither, and definitely NOT a economy mixed rice shop. It's nearby one though.

Image taken from tripadvisor.com

When passing by Uncle Don's, some people like me, would think that this is a bar. That assumption would also be correct, because they do serve alcoholic beverages here. So what was surprising was not only that I had passed by this restaurant countless times, but also its menu! (You may start guessing the price tags on the menu)

Most of the items in the menu are indeed affordable, and this place is a MUST-try for its ambience, food quality and especially if you're a fan of alcoholic drinks.

Oh ya, the place has a no-smoking policy between certain hours (I think it's from 10am to 9.30pm?). So if you're seated indoors, you won't have to worry about smoking drinkers disrupting you from having a good meal (unless you love the smell of cigarettes).

Uncle Don's tagline:
With a rustic-chic, chilled-out design, this diner, bar & grill is designed to cater 5-star quality food & beverage at insanely cheap pricing!

I'd definitely recommend coming to this place (more than once) to try out their menu!

16052015 Brunch at Old School Cafe, Puchong

When meeting a friend in Puchong, I'd definitely ask to meet up at Old School Cafe, because they serve my favorite Nasi Lemak with Pork. Read about my last visit and you'll know why.

While waiting for my friend to arrive, I ordered myself a nice cool drink, Old School Coffee.

Once my friend arrived, we chat a while before we ordered. I was impatient to get started. Last time I had Siew Yoke, so I went on with Grilled Pork this time around. Hehehe =D

They're gonna keep me coming back so long as they keep serving the right portion, at the right price, and right taste! =D Speaking of that, I should probably bring Min here on my next visit!

07052015 - Dinner at A Pie Thing, Damansara Uptown

It's Badminton Thursday! Started making it a habit to have a full body workout at least once a week, and badminton seem to be the sport that I can get at least 3 other people to join me on a weekly basis.

So, on a Thursday like this, and given that we gotta have something to eat before our badminton session, the question is "Where and what can we eat?" We're all tired of mamak and fast food, so what are our other options?

Tonight, I found an alternative! Heard of A Pie Thing? Well, you should, as it's quite famous in Damansara Uptown. What do they serve? Well, as their name suggest, PIE!

Cheesy Chicken Pie w/ Mash. RM15.90.
Chunky Steak Pie. RM13.90.

They're still as amazing as ever! The last time I had this was sometime last year and I can't recall when (this was before I started this blog). Don't think for a moment that they look small and might not even fill your stomachs, because they're quite the opposite!

The pies are really stuff with its suggested name. The pie we ordered had just the right amount of cheesy chicken and chunky steak! Luckily I only add the additional Mash topping on one of the pies, otherwise, I'd be feeling too full to do anything else. In fact, I shared the pies with Min, who isn't quite the big eater as I am. So you can imagine how filling they are.

The environment has been quite the same since I last visit, it's quite comfortable even though the tables are quite small (but then again, it's not a very big place, so it's quite good actually). You gotta be lucky because this place is usually packed and the pies runs out pretty quickly. For its price, it's definitely worth it =) I absolutely love the Mash topping, too bad they're not on the side dish menu!

20042015 Dinner at Two Pesos, SS2

Monday blues?! Not at all, at least not after working hours, that's for sure. Tonight, Min and I planned to go to the night market at SS2. While heading there, I was still thinking of what to get for dinner. I couldn't think of anything until the moment I found a parking and got an idea for dinner! Somehow with Min, I always seem to be in luck to get parking. My makan-buddy and lucky charm =)

Two Pesos Stone Pot
RM11
Very healthy in taste, it's just plain with all the ingredients!
Could use some extra boost in the soup base though.
But overall, it's great and quite filling too!

A sticker on the table that shows the link to their social media accounts.

If you plan to dine here, you better come early. As what I've observed and with what Min told me, this place is very packed during dinner time, especially 7PM onwards. It could lead to a long queue outside the shop!

The environment's alright, cozy and nice for dinner and I bet it's the same for lunch too. The aircond's pretty chilly, but I guess that's goes well with the steam boat =)

The price's very affordable, considering that you'd be filling pretty full once you finish up the soup. They're pretty quick with serving as well, and the service's pretty good. So, it's definitely worth the money!

22032015 Dinner at Meng Kee Char Siew Restaurant, Kuchai Lama

Mum told me about a noodles restaurant in Kuchai Lama which she liked and wanted me to try it. So, we drove there and decided to try out some of the menu.

Taste wise - they're delicious! very different from other noodles shop, especially if compared with the common hawker stalls. They have bigger fillings for the wantan and fried dumpling. However, personally I didn't like some of the vegetables that they included into the dumpling. It's just me though.

Service wise - you see what you get. It's a normal Chinese restaurant, so you'll get the usual treatment. Nothing special. They're quick to take order and quick to serve as well.

Price wise - pretty affordable and reasonable pricing; about the same price as you would get from a hawker stall. But for their price and portion, I'd say it's a pretty darn good deal! You must try the minced pork sausage!

18032015 Dessert At OW:L Espresso

We need to reward ourselves once in a blue moon, especially when we had worked so hard. It's the only way to feel good and keep going on. So tonight, Min & me went to Subang SS15 to get ourselves a good bowl of patbingsu (Korean shaved ice dessert). There's no where else better than OW:L Espresso. Our last visit was a couple of months back.

140315 Lunch at Old School, Puchong

Dated my mum for lunch at Old School in Puchong. Heard and read about it, so was really looking forward to it! It's a pork-rich place, so it's definitely not a Halal restaurant. So if you're not a pork-lover, I'd suggest to not continue beyond this sentence.

Disclaimer: the author is not responsible for the audience's change of preference.

Welcome to Old School!
Prepared to be porkified by porkilicious food!

1 of the menu captured

Another menu captured.

The waitresses here dress up like school girls, but honestly they look kinda old for it haha.

The panoramic view of the interior in Old School

Lemon Honey juice
It's really good!

Taste wise - It's really super good! From the nuts to anchovies and ultimately to the pork itself, it's really done at its best (or at least that's what I think). It's definitely a must-try for any pork-lover! It surpass my expectations, but it might just do the same for you.

Service wise - quick and efficient. It wasn't long till our food arrived at our table. Allowed us the time to look around the restaurant.

Environment wise - nice, cozy and clean. Comfortable for any meals and for any group of people, as the tables can be re-arranged according to the groups.

Price wise - affordable but it might still exceed your average budget for budget lunch on certain menu, however I don't think you can find nasi lemak with siew yoke at RM14.90 anywhere else. You should at least try it once before saying anything else =)

14022015 Mum's Birthday Eat Out

Yup it's the 14th February, we all know what day that it globally, and it also happens to be my mum's birthday =) I'm my momma's boy, just so you know. So on this glorious day, I dedicate the whole day to her (also happens it's a weekend, and I'm not working =P)

Brought my mum back to SS2's Korea House for dinner. If you love Korean food and you haven't been there, give it a try! I don't have a share in the place, but I've been there a few times prior to this visit, and I still am steadfast with the saying "Must come back again"

I like the environment and service a lot =) They're attentive, quick and responsive. The taste is definitely worth paying for, although it does break a budge but it's not super expensive. You really get the taste of authentic Korean food, according to my sources =P You'll love the Pork Belly, and you'll like the variety of side dishes - it's different every time (check out the pictures below)! I'm pretty cautious with where I dine (unless I don't have a choice) so if I can leave a place (with a desire to return or revisit the place) with a smile each time, it means it's worth it.

Samgyeopsal (Pork Belly)~~!!

Gyeran Jjim (Steamed Egg) - this was on the house.
This is simply delicious!
I think it is a new menu so they were giving out to customers to try =D

During dinner, I promised my family that I'd bring them for some of the best shaved-ice desserts (aka bingsu) I know. We headed to OW:L Espresso (we're back again and you know what that means too =P Click here to check out my previous post about this place)

Yet to try their coffee-bingsu but their bingsu's are worth the travel to try (again and again)! I don't think I can ever find another place that offers shaved-ice dessert this smooth and not so sweet (it's dessert but you don't have to feel overly guilty about it either! =P). There's many Koreans visiting this place as well; I suspect the person is charge is a Korean too, but I haven't got a chance to speak with him personally. Must find an opportunity one day to do so =D

Special menu - Mango Cheese Bingsu!
Yea, we got not one, but TWO (2) regular-sized bingsu.
Large = RM29
Regular = RM16
Originally, we order a large one, but they got our order wrong and offered us two regular-sized instead.
*we're in luck!*
How awesome is that??

This mango cheese is a must-try if you're a a fan of bingsu and also cheese lover! =P
The combination is simply awesome!

07022015 Lunch at Oyster King, The Gardens

Went to Mid Valley with my family just for fun and to walk-about in a mall. Family decided to have lunch at Oyster King - we haven't had oyster-dishes in a while now.

A photo posted by Jeffro Ong (@jeffroong) on

A photo posted by Jeffro Ong (@jeffroong) on

Taste wise - it's pretty delicious! I thought they'd be too commercialize that the taste would be plain, but it's good enough to get me to come back again to order another plate of Oh Chien and the lala Fried Rice set! I'd try something else the next round =)

Service wise - they're friendly and not pushy, allowing us to take our time to decide. We're supposed to pay first upon ordering, but the waiter allowed us to the option of paying once we're done with our meals

Environment wise - don't expect too much from this place. It's just next to Ko Hyang, and frankly it's even smaller than Ko Hyang. We managed to find a comfortable spot, as soon as we finished, we felt we had to leave because others were waiting for a place to sit.

Price wise - reasonable and definitely affordable. You can check out their menu here. I don't know about the other outlets, but I find this one to my liking =)

Location:
Oyster King,
Lower Ground, The Gardens

On the side note, after our lunch, I went to the PC Expo at the Mid Valley Convention Centre, and found myself a gaming mouse! Best part is that due to it's clearance stock, from what used to be more than RM80 at retail price, I managed to get it at RM19! =D

03022015 High Tea at Acme Bar & Coffee, Dinner at Burgertory

After our shopping, Min and I were off to find food! I had been wanting to try out Acme Bar & Coffee for their desserts, and so that's where we went for a start!

A portion of ABC's interior from where I was sitting

<3 the flowers!

A photo posted by Jeffro Ong (@jeffroong) on

Taste wise - one of the best desserts I've tried so far! I love the sizzling effect as the waiter poured the chocolate sauce over the ice cream and brownie! Can see that Min's eyes were glowing, lol! Too bad, we didn't have enough budget to try other desserts, but I'm willing to bet they are pretty good too!

Service wise - the waiters are friendly and quick to serve us. They were also attentive to us; as soon as we finished, they helped to clear our table to allow us to chat more comfortably.

Environment wise - this might be different for others, but I personally think the place could use a little more ventilation. A glance from the outside, you'd be expecting a cooling place but much to my discomfort, it was stuffy and warm on the inside. Thank goodness our drinks were a little cool and there was a blower (though it was taken away moments after we sat in) to help a little. We could have stayed for dinner, but the environment just didn't suit either me or min.

Price wise - well, it'll definitely blow a hole in your wallet if you're super duper hungry because the average price for a dinner meal would be about RM30 per person. And that's not counting drinks and desserts yet! For me, it's definitely pricey and above the average cafe's price. If you're in for a light meal, it'll not be cheap either. But I guess good (and probably premium) taste has its price.

Of course, after high tea (and honestly, we weren't full enough) we had to look for dinner. I buzzed our colleagues and was suggested to go to Burgertory in SS15, Subang. So, that's where we went! =D We ordered some of their MUST-TRY-items!

The panoramic view from the inside of Burgertory

Taste wise - they're pretty darn good and fulfilling burgers! Comparable to myBurgerLab, but their focus on the pork is really good. Initially, by the time I reached there, I sorta lost my appetite ('cause of the long drive there, due to traffic) but as soon as I had my first bite, I just couldn't stop! I'd definitely be back for another taste of their burgers! Something in their sauce that makes the burger and the dips for fries, super delicious!

Service wise - they're good with their recommendation if you're there for the first time and you don't know what you wanna get for a start. They serve pretty quickly and they're very friendly too! Don't ya love places that serve you well? =)

Environment wise - it's not as big as myBurgerLab, but it's pretty comfortable inside and the interior is cozy and inviting. But the incoming crowd will outnumber the tables and chairs there. So, it wouldn't be an ideal place to be if you're looking for a longer stay after your meal. Wouldn't be nice if we denied hungry customers of seats, when we're done with our meals right? We're all very considerate people, aren't we? =)

Price wise - for the size and taste, I think it's pretty reasonable pricing. Not the most affordable burgers in town, but it won't kill your budget if you're in for a good burger! Go with the set meals if you want to make it more worth it! =)
